Collecting military patches and pins is an interesting and enjoyable hobby.? It’s great for collectors with little space, who have a limited amount of money to invest in their hobby. Military Pins and patches can be easily displayed in albums, binders and matted frames.

Many collectors who start out only collecting military patches and pins go on to collect other military-related items, such as flags, caps and other types of jewelry. Most military pins and patches are very reasonably priced, many selling for as little as $3.

Some collectors choose to focus on one branch of service, while others look for interesting and colorful pieces, from all of the major branches, of the military… Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps. Collectors also have the option of collecting on a more specialized level, such as focusing on POW/MIA patches and pins.

Military patches became popular in America, after World War II. Until the 1960s, the department in charge of creating and approving the patches and insignias was the Army Quartermaster Corps. This same department also designed military seals, coat of arms, flags and metals, for all U.S. Army uniforms.

There have been several great books written, in regard to collecting military pins, patches and insignia. They are all a great reference tool, when searching for new items to add to a collection. ? These guides can easily be obtained from your favorite bookstore or local library as well as online.

There are almost a limitless number of military patches, pins and insignia available to collectors, today. They can be found at swap meets, at garage sales, in attics and most conveniently, online.

Online purchasing allows you to shop from the comfort of home.? It saves gas and provides you with a much wider selection of items, to choose from. Many online vendors list a variety of their items, on eBay and other auction sites, as well.

(Please use caution, when bidding on items listed on an online auction. ALWAYS read buyer feedback. While the vast majority of sellers are on the up and up, there are those who are online for the sole purpose of defrauding consumers. As the saying goes… “it’s better to be safe than sorry”.)

Many collectors, of military memorabilia, will tell you that they choose to collect these items because they have, themselves, served time in the military. Others will tell you that they collect military pins and patches, as a way to honor loved ones who have served and even lost their lives, in foreign wars.
